The Secretary General met yesterday with H.E. Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

They discussed the leadership role of Tanzania as current chair of the South African Development Community (SADC) Organ for Politics, Defence and Security, in particular with regard to Madagascar and Zimbabwe. They also discussed regional efforts to restore peace and security in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
