The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
They exchanged views on the crisis in Syria and prospects for a political settlement. The Secretary-General once again expressed his appreciation for Turkey’s generous hosting of Syrian refugees since the start of the crisis.
The Secretary-General also commended Turkey for its support to Somalia, in particular in the security sector. The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister exchanged views on the situation in Iraq and on the status of negotiations in Cyprus. On the latter, the Secretary-General reiterated his expectation that full-fledged negotiations to find a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus would resume at the earliest possible opportunity.
Finally, the Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister exchanged views on the Middle East peace process and on the situation in Mali.
