Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Ali Ahmed Karti, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan, on the margins of the 67th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Ali Ahmed Karti, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan.

The Secretary-General commended the Government of Sudan and President Al-Bashir in particular for reaching agreements with the Government of South Sudan on post-secession issues.

They also discussed the current situation in Sudan, including the security and humanitarian situation in Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur.

The Secretary-General underlined the importance of ensuring humanitarian access to rebel-held areas in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile as per the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Government of the Sudan and the African Union, League of Arab States and United Nations.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General urged Foreign Minister Karti to facilitate the work of UNAMID and the UN agencies in Darfur and to redouble his Governments efforts to conclude a comprehensive and peaceful settlement top the Darfur conflict.
