The Secretary-General met today 23 September 2012, with H.E. Mr. Guido Westerwelle, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. They discussed the Syrian crisis and the urgent need for a solution, as well as the humanitarian situation and the spreading refugee crisis in the region.

They also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue and the Middle East peace process. The Secretary-General thanked the Foreign Minister for the support of Germany and the EU to the Palestinian Authority and encouraged its continuation.
