In addition to meeting with the Emir of the State of Kuwait, the Secretary-General had a range of other meetings in Kuwait City today. The Secretary-General outlined his conversation with the Emir at a press conference.

In his meeting with H.H. Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait, he expressed thanks for Kuwait's contribution to the work of the United Nations. They discussed the League of Arab States summit in Baghdad, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen and relations between Iraq and Kuwait.

The Secretary-General also met H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Sadoun, the Speaker of the Parliament of Kuwait. They discussed Syria, relations between Iraq and Kuwait, and the role of women in Kuwait's political life. The Secretary-General said it was unfortunate that no women had been elected to parliament in the most recent elections, and he hoped they would succeed in future.

The Secretary-General also had wide-ranging discussions with Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry officials, academics and representatives of civil society during the day.
