Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d'Ivoire

The Secretary-General met today, 30 January 2012, with H.E. Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.

The Secretary-General welcomed the generally peaceful environment in which the legislative elections took place and commended Côte d'Ivoire's political reintegration in the region, and the country's economic growth achieved so far. He stressed the need for the Government to focus on urgent priorities with respect to SSR, DDR, and national reconciliation, while continuing to stabilize the security situation. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the United Nations commitment to working closely with the Government, including through his Special Representative and the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), in addressing these priorities, and towards sustainable peace, security and economic recovery in Côte d'Ivoire.
