The Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary of State Burns had a wide ranging discussion on a variety of issues including Sudan, current challenges facing countries in transition in North Africa, and developments in Somalia.

They discussed the situation in the Middle East and the nuclear issue with Iran.

The Secretary-General briefed the Deputy Secretary of State on his priorities for his second term.
