Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E Carlos Gomes Júnior, Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau on the margins of the AU Summit

The Secretary-General met today with Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Júnior of Guinea-Bissau, on the margins of the 18th African Union Summit. The Secretary-General reiterated his condolences for the passing of President Malam Bacai Sanha and assured the Prime Minister of the continued support of the United Nations for peacebuilding efforts in Guinea-Bissau, including during the transition process. He commended the Government of Guinea-Bissau for its commitment to advancing security sector reform in the country. The discussion also focused on Guinea-Bissau's efforts to combat impunity and drug trafficking, as well as to promote national reconciliation.
