Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on the margins of the AU Summit

The Secretary-General met today with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, and current Chair of the African Union, on the margins of the 18th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Secretary-General and President Obiang discussed developments in Africa and expressed their commitment to enhance cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union in the quest for a lasting solution to peace and security challenges in the region. They also discussed cross-border challenges affecting the Central Africa sub-region, including the growing threat of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and the need for enhanced efforts against the Lord Resistance Army (LRA). Lastly, the Secretary-General reiterated the United Nations' commitment to continue to lend its support to the efforts of Equatorial Guinea and Gabon towards settling the border dispute between the two countries peacefully.
