Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with His Excellency Mr. Pham Binh Minh, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on the margins of the 66th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today, 26 September 2011, with Mr. Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam.

They discussed issues related to UN reform, UN-Viet Nam Cooperation and UN-ASEAN cooperation. The Secretary-General commended the Government of Viet Nam for its “unquestionable global leadership” in driving forward the “One UN Initiative.” The Secretary-General also encouraged Viet Nam to redouble its efforts for the promotion and protection of human rights and towards peaceful resolution of the ongoing dispute over the South China Sea
