Readout of Secretary-General's meeting with H. E. Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, in the margins of the 66th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met with the President of the Republic of Haiti, H. E. Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, today. They discussed the cooperation between the United Nations and the Government of Haiti, including on governance and rule of law issues. The Secretary-General confirmed his intention of reducing MINUSTAH's military component to pre-earthquake levels over the coming year, with the consent of the Security Council. He also informed the President that he was envisaging a gradual withdrawal of MINUSTAH to be worked out in close collaboration with the Haitian Government.
