New York, 21 September 2010

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. President Francois Bozizé of the Central African Republic (CAR) on the margins of the 65th General Assembly.

The Secretary-General welcomed the progress made in the peace-building process in the CAR, in particular, the adoption of a consensual electoral timetable. He also noted the progress of the DDR process in the Northwest region of the country. The Secretary-General and the President also discussed post-MINURCAT security arrangements in the north-eastern part of the country and plans for the reintegration of former combatants. The Secretary-General reassured the President that the United Nations system, through its Integrated Peacebuilding Office, BINUCA under the leadership of his Special Representative Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde, will continue to work with the CAR authorities, to facilitate the implementation of the recommendations of the December 2008 Inclusive Political Dialogue and assist with the consolidation of peace-building and DDR initiatives.
