Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with His Excellency Mr. Taïb Fassi Fihri, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco, on the margins of the General Assembly's 66th session.

The Secretary-General met today, 26 September 2011, with His Excellency Mr. Taïb Fassi Fihri, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco on the margins of the General Assembly's 66th session.

They discussed the ongoing constitutional reforms in the country. The Secretary-General expressed sincere hope that these efforts would respond to the legitimate aspirations of all Moroccans. He encouraged Morocco to pursue efforts in the Western Sahara negotiation process in order to achieve concrete progress and expressed his support for the implementation of confidence-building measures between the parties. The Secretary-General also reiterated United Nations commitment to the negotiation process. Finally, he discussed the overall political and security situation in the region, including in Libya.
