Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General - on Chad
 
The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of President Idriss Déby Itno of Chad this morning. He expresses his profound condolences to President Déby Itno´s family, as well as to the people and the Government of Chad. 
 
President Déby Itno was a key partner for the United Nations and made significant contributions to regional stability, particularly as part of efforts to combat terrorism, violent extremism and organized crime in the Sahel.  
 
In these difficult times, the United Nations stands with the Chadian people in their efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous future.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général  - sur le Tchad
 
Le Secrétaire général a été profondément attristé par la nouvelle du décès du président tchadien Idriss Déby Itno ce matin. Il exprime ses plus sincères condoléances à la famille du président Déby Itno, ainsi qu´au peuple et au gouvernement du Tchad. 
 
Le président Déby Itno était un partenaire essentiel pour les Nations Unies et a contribué de manière significative à la stabilité régionale, en particulier dans le cadre des efforts de lutte contre le terrorisme, l'extrémisme violent et le crime organisé au Sahel. 
 
En ces moments difficiles, les Nations Unies soutiennent le peuple tchadien dans ses efforts pour bâtir un avenir pacifique et prospère.
