Algerian officials brief Subcommittee A

Senior officials from Algeria briefed the United Nations Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) on the country's efforts in fighting terrorism based on its experience with terrorist violence and on developing various national counter-terrorism programmes. Kamal Rezag Bara, Counsellor to the President of Algeria on matters related to counter-terrorism; Ambassador Noureddine Ayadi from the Government of Algeria and assistant to Mr. Rezag Bara; and Mecheri Fouad, counsellor at the Algerian Embassy in Washington, D.C., made their presentations on 11 February 2009 during a session of Subcommittee A of the Committee. In addition to talks with other UN officials, Mr. Rezag Bara and Ambassador Ayadi also held bilateral meetings with Executive Director Mike Smith of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) with a view to enhancing the constructive dialogue between the Committee and Algeria.
