Counter-Terrorism Technical Assistance Programmes |
| Technical Assistance Programme Description | The Countering Terrorism and Radicalisation (CTR) Programme brings together the former GOF CT and Engaging with the Islamic World Programmes under a single umbrella to enable a much more seamless approach to our CT efforts overseas. The programme's scope will be much more focused on enhancing key CT capabilities overseas and also much more ambitious in terms of scale, in particular support for sustained campaigns of activities that deliver both our tactical and strategic objectives. |
|---|---|
| Technical Assistance Methodology | The main objective of the CTR Programme is to help deliver the Overseas Counter Terrorism Strategy endorsed and approved by the cross-Government Overseas Contest Group. The overarching aim is: "To enhance the Counter Terrorism Capabilities and to strengthen the resilience of CT priority countries to Pursue the perpetrators of terrorism, to Protect and Prepare against acts of terrorism and to Prevent vulnerable individuals becoming terrorists and supporting terrorism or violence." All programmes funded by the UK government agencies directly support the Government's CT strategy. Project applications are submitted on bidding forms via Embassies in relevant country who will then see if can fit into local objectives before passing onto the Programme Team. |
| Technical Assistance Eligibility | The Government's CT strategy focuses our programme activity under four main themes: Prevent terrorism by tackling the factors which lead to radicalisation and recruitment. Typical projects might include research projects/ educational reform, media reform and empowerment of civil society and community groups. Pursue terrorists and those who support them. Tyypical projects might include police capacity building, helping countries draft effective CT legislation, combating the financing of terrorism, bomb scene management and border control management. Protect British people and British interests against terrorist attack. Typical projects include aviation and maritime training and hostage negotiation training. Prepare for the consequences of terrorist attack so as to minimise its impact. A typical project includes crisis management training. |
