Nedal Mahmoud Saleh was listed on 25 June 2003 pursuant to paragraphs 1 and 2 of resolution 1390 (2002) as being associated with Al-Qaida, Usama bin Laden or the Taliban for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf or in support of”, “supplying, selling or transferring arms and related materiel to” or “otherwise supporting acts or activities of” the Armed Islamic Group (QE.A.6.01).
Additional information
Nedal Mahmoud Saleh, a member of the Armed Islamic Group (QE.A.6.01), was investigated and prosecuted by Italian authorities in a conspiracy to commit crimes in support of terrorism, including forging documents, receiving stolen goods, and using forged banknotes and forged Italian and foreign seals. Saleh committed some of these acts with Khalil ben Ahmed ben Mohamed Jarraya (QI.J.99.03). He was also investigated by the Italian authorities for providing counterfeit currency to other militants. He was convicted in absentia in Italy by the Tribunal of Bologna and sentenced in 2003 to two years of imprisonment.
Saleh set up logistical infrastructure to support terrorist organizations operating in Europe and North Africa. He also recruited and trained individuals, including Chiheb ben Mohamed ben Mokhtar al-Ayari (QI.A.93.03), for terrorist purposes, encouraging them to attend training courses in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and to fight in Afghanistan and the former Yugoslavia.
