UN Report Says Kenya Violence Had Underlying Causes
20/03/2008
After spending over three weeks probing the causes of the violence that followed the announcement of last year's presidential election results in Kenya, a United Nations human rights team has published its report. The five-member team was sent by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to help shed light on the violence which shocked the world and tarnished Kenya's image as a peaceful stable democracy in east Africa. UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha discussed the report with Rupert Colville, the spokesman for the Human Rights Commissioner, who says that the members of the human rights team talked to victims of the violence and people who witnessed what happened in Kenya.
