Security Council Committee concerning Libya Considers Final Report of Its Panel of Experts

On 23 August 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya held informal consultations to consider the final report of its Panel of Experts, submitted pursuant to paragraph 14 of resolution 2362 (2017).

The Panel of Experts provided an overview of its final report, covering the following areas:  acts that threaten the peace, stability or security of Libya, or obstruct or undermine the successful completion of its political transition; implementation of the arms embargo, assets freeze and travel ban; and the measures in relation to attempts to illicitly export crude oil and refined petroleum products from Libya.

The Panel presented 14 recommendations, each of which were individually discussed by the Committee members thereafter.  Consideration of follow‑up action is ongoing.

During the informal consultations, Committee members expressed their support and appreciation for the work of the Panel of Experts and encouraged the Panel to intensify efforts to assist the Committee in carrying out its mandate.

The Panel’s final report will be transmitted to the Security Council no later than 15 September 2018.
