Secretary-General Appoints Susan McDade of Canada Assistant Administrator, Director, Bureau of Management, United Nations Development Programme

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Susan McDade of Canada as Assistant Administrator and Director of the Bureau for Management Services at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Ms. McDade will succeed Jens Wandel of Denmark.  The Secretary-General is grateful to Mr. Wandel for his dedication and commitment to the Organization during his term as Assistant Administrator and Director of the Bureau for Management Services at UNDP.

Ms. McDade brings many years of leadership experience to this position.  She has been the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director, Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, UNDP, in New York since 2014.  Prior to this, Ms. McDade was Director, Country Operations and Sustainable Energy for All Initiative, United Nations Secretariat (2013-2014).  Previous roles include United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Uruguay (2010‑2013) and in Cuba (2006-2010); Manager, Sustainable Energy Programme (2002-2006) and Technical Specialist, Energy and Atmosphere Programme (1996-1999), Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP in New York.  She was also Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP in China (1992-1996) and Junior Professional Officer in Guatemala (1991-1992).

Ms. McDade holds a master’s degree in development studies from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and international development from the University of Guelph in Canada.
