Condemning Terrorist Massacre in France, Secretary-General Hopes Responsible Parties Will Be Swiftly Identified, Brought to Justice

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns the 14 July terrorist attack in Nice, France.  He expresses his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of this horrific act, as well as to the Government and the people of France.  He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Secretary-General hopes that all those responsible for this massacre will be rapidly identified and brought to justice.  He stands firmly by the French Government and people as they confront this threat and stresses the need to intensify regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
