Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning South Sudan Meets with Regional States

On 12 February 2016, at its third formal meeting, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan held an exchange of views on the implementation of the sanctions measures in pursuance of paragraph 16(g) of the resolution and paragraph 3(b) of the Committee’s Guidelines with the representatives to the United Nations of South Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.

Members of the Committee stressed the importance of continued collaboration by South Sudan and the regional States in the implementation of the assets freeze and travel ban imposed on 1 July 2015 against six individuals (James Koang Chuol, Simon Gatwech Dual, Peter Gadet, Gabriel Jok Riak, Marial Chanoung Yol Mangok and Santino Deng Wol).

During the meeting, the representatives of South Sudan and the regional States also engaged in informative discussions with the members of the Committee and the Coordinator of the Panel of Experts on the final report of the Panel of Experts on South Sudan (S/2016/70).
