Secretary-General, Saddened by Peacekeepers’ Deaths in Central African Republic, Offers Condolences, Confirms Investigation under Way

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General was saddened to learn today of the deaths of five Rwandan peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).  A full investigation into the circumstances of this incident in which eight additional peacekeepers were wounded is ongoing.

The Secretary-General offers his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and to the Government and people of Rwanda.  He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
