Secretary-General Condemns Recent Attacks in Afghanistan

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the recent attacks in Afghanistan that killed and injured more than 100 civilians, including women and children.  The heinous attacks in Khost and Baghlan provinces and Kabul city occurred near spaces of public assembly, including a bazaar as well as mosque where civilians had gathered to pray.

The Secretary-General expresses his solidarity with the people of Afghanistan in the face of such attacks.  He conveys his deepest condolences to the Government of Afghanistan and to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a swift recovery.  The Secretary-General calls for the persons responsible for these attacks to be brought to justice.
