Secretary-General Condemns Attack against African Union Peacekeepers in Somalia

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the attack by Al-Shabaab today against an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base in the town of Leego, Somalia.  The Secretary-General pays tribute to the Burundian peacekeepers who lost their lives helping to bring lasting peace to Somalia.  He conveys his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Burundi.

The Secretary-General reaffirms the commitment and resolve of the United Nations to continue to work with the African Union and AMISOM to support the people and Government of Somalia on the path to peace.
