Security Council Press Statement on Killing of Chilean Peacekeeper in Haiti

The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Dina Kawar (Jordan):

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attack on a vehicle of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) on 13 April, which resulted in the death of a Chilean peacekeeper.

The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy to the family of the fallen peacekeeper, to the Government and people of Chile and to MINUSTAH.

The members of the Security Council looked forward to the completion of a full and comprehensive investigation by MINUSTAH and Haitian authorities to determine the facts and circumstances of the incident.
