SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JANE HOLL LUTE OF UNITED STATES AS SPECIAL
ADVISER FOR RELOCATION OF CAMP HURRIYA RESIDENTS OUTSIDE OF IRAQ
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Jane Holl Lute of the United States as his Special Adviser for Relocation of Camp Hurriya Residents Outside of Iraq. Ms. Holl Lute will work with a wide range of stakeholders, in particular Member States, with a view to facilitating the relocation of residents of Camp Hurriya outside of Iraq.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Holl Lute served as United States Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security from April 2009 to April 2013. She previously served as United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support (2008-2009) and Assistant Secretary-General for Mission Support in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (2003-2008).
Before joining the United Nations, Ms. Holl Lute was Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the United Nations Foundation and the Better World Fund. From 1994 to 1999, Ms. Holl Lute headed the Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict and was a senior public policy fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Ms. Holl Lute has a PhD in political science from Stanford University, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University.
Born in 1956, Ms. Holl Lute is married and has three daughters.
