Secretary-General Convenes High-Level Meeting on Response to Ebola

 


The Secretary-General will convene a High-level Meeting on Response to the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak on Thursday, 25 September, at 11 a.m.


This meeting will bring together global leaders to focus international attention to combat the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease.  It aims to mobilize an exceptional response to contain and stop the spread of the virus, treat those who are infected, ensure essential services, preserve stability and prevent outbreaks in other countries.


The affected countries will be represented by Alpha Condé, President of the Republic of Guinea, and via tele-conference, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia, and Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.


The meeting will also feature statements by representatives from United Nations Member States, the World Health Organization (WHO), the African Union Commission, the European Commission, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, the United Nations Development Group, the World Bank Group, Médecins Sans Frontières and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.


The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations will close the meeting.
