Fifth Committee, by Recorded Vote, Suspends Final Meeting, Allowing for More Time to Deliberate Informally on Outstanding Matters

The Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) this afternoon decided to suspend its final meeting — during which it would be expected to take action on all outstanding matters and conclude the main part of its sixty-ninth session — until further notice.

By a recorded vote of 149 in favour to 6 against (Bangladesh, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Korea and Russian Federation) with 1 abstention (Ethiopia), the Committee approved the suspension of its twenty-seventh meeting.

Isobel Coleman (United States) had moved to suspend the meeting, under rule 118 of the General Assembly’s rules of procedure, saying that Committee members needed more time to deliberate informally on outstanding matters.

Prior to the vote on suspension, Dmitry Chumakov (Russian Federation) had asked if the Committee planned after the suspension to resume consideration of its agenda item on human resources management, and then requested that it do so.

The Fifth Committee will meet at a later date and time to be announced.
