General Assembly to Convene High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2016,

 

Adopting Decision Titled ‘Global Partnerships’

 

The General Assembly decided today to convene a high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2016.

Acting without a vote, the Assembly adopted a draft decision titled “Global Partnerships” (document A/68/L.51) on implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, agreeing that consultations should be held during its seventieth session to determine the modalities and organizational arrangements for the high-level event.

Speaking after action, the United States’ representative said her delegation looked forward to the 2016 meeting and would engage actively in its preparation.

According to a subsequent announcement, the Assembly would take action on a draft resolution titled “Modalities for the third International Conference on Financing for Development” (document A/68/L.49) after its Fifth Committee (administrative and Budgetary) considered whether it entailed programme budget implications.

The Assembly then suspended proceedings pending action on outstanding reports by the Fifth Committee.
