Activities of Secretary-General in Vatican, 9 April

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, visited the Vatican on Tuesday, 9 April, for an audience with Pope Francis.

The Secretary-General later gave some details at a media encounterin Rome about his meeting with the pontiff.  He said that he was heartened by the commitment of Pope Francis to build bridges among communities of faith.  “I strongly believe that interfaith dialogue can point the way to a deeper appreciation for shared values,” he said, “which in turn can lead to tolerance, inclusion and peace.”

The Secretary-General also had a meeting with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Secretary of State of the Holy See.
