Secretary-General Heralds ‘Significant Achievement’ in Peace Talks

between Colombian Government, Revolutionary Armed Forces

 

The following statement was issued by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 26 May:

The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement that the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia have today reached agreement on the first agenda item in the peace talks being held in Havana, namely, Rural Development.  This is a significant achievement and an important step forward.  He wishes both delegations further success in their efforts to reach agreement on the remaining issues and to put an end to Colombia’s long conflict.
