Sixty-seventh General Assembly

Plenary

83rd Meeting (AM)

Acting on Recommendation of Fifth Committee, General Assembly

Appoints New Member to Committee on Contributions

Acting on the recommendation of its Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary), the General Assembly today appointed Thomas David Smith (United Kingdom) as a member of the Committee on Contributions for a term of office beginning on 21 May 2013 and ending on 31 December 2014.

Mr. Smith fills the vacancy arising from the 23 April resignation of Ms. NneNne Iwuji-Eme ( United Kingdom), whose three-year term of office expires on 31 December 2014.

The Commitments Committee advises the General Assembly on the apportionment of United Nations expenses among Members, broadly according to the capacity to pay.  It also advises on assessments to be fixed for new Members, appeals for a change of assessments, and action to be taken with regard to the application of Article 19 of the United Nations Charter, which outlines that a Member in arrears in the payment of its financial contributions shall have no vote in the Assembly if the arrears amount equals or exceeds the contribution due for the preceding two full years.

The General Assembly will reconvene at a time and date to be announced.
