Activities of Secretary-General in Italy, 5-9 September

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, left New York on Wednesday evening, 5 September, and arrived in Turin, Italy, the following afternoon.

The Secretary-General was in Italy to participate in a two-day retreat with senior officials of the United Nations system. 

Mr. Ban also took the opportunity to visit the United Nations Staff College.

While in Turin, the Secretary-General met on Saturday, 8 September, with Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Italy.  They reviewed the critical situation in Syria and the recent developments in Libya and Somalia.  They also discussed the importance of sustainable development goals and the post‑2015 development agenda.  The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Secretary‑General appreciated the strong collaboration between Italy and the United Nations.  Special attention was devoted to the cooperation between the city of Turin and the United Nations System Staff College and other parts of the United Nations system.

The Secretary-General departed Turin on Sunday morning, 9 September, to Geneva, Switzerland.
