Secretary-General, Condemning Recent Bomb Attack in Bahrain, Says Inclusive

National Dialogue Will Go Far Towards Promoting Peace, Stability

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns the bomb attack which recently took place in the vicinity of the village of Eker, Bahrain, injuring several policemen.  He also remains concerned by the excessive use of force against protestors, which continues to result in civilian casualties.  He appeals to all sides to act with restraint and refrain from violence.  The fundamental human rights of the Bahraini people, including the right to peaceful protest, must be respected.  He firmly believes that an all-inclusive and meaningful national dialogue that addresses the legitimate aspirations of all Bahrainis will go a long way to promote peace and stability in the country.
