Secretary-General Appoints Izabella Teixeira of Brazil to His High-Level Panel

 

of Eminent Persons on Post-2015 Development Agenda

 


United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today appointed Izabella Teixeira of Brazil to serve on his High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.  Ms. Teixeira is the Minister for the Environment of Brazil.  She replaces Vanessa Petrelli Corrêa, who has recently submitted her resignation due to supervening circumstances.  Ms. Teixeira is scheduled to be in New York during the opening debate of the General Assembly and will attend the first meeting of the Panel on 25 September 2012.


A civil servant at the Brazilian Environmental Agency since 1984, Ms. Teixeira has occupied different managing positions at the Agency, as well as at the Ministry of the Environment and at the State Government of Rio de Janeiro.  She has also worked as a professor of business management and the environment in different universities and is an expert in strategic environmental assessment.  Ms. Teixeira is a biologist and holds a master’s degree in energy planning and a PhD in environmental planning from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
