Secretary-General Appoints Under-Secretary-General Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal

 

as Coordinator for Multilingualism

 


United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed the incoming Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal of Austria, as Coordinator for Multilingualism, in implementation of General Assembly resolutions 54/64 of 1999 and 61/266 of 2007, by which the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to appoint a senior official as coordinator of the questions relating to multilingualism throughout the Secretariat.


These functions are in addition to Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal’s responsibilities as head of the Department of Public Information.  He will replace Kiyotaka Akasaka, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his dedicated service.
