Observance of International Day of Solidarity
with Palestinian People, 29 November
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in North Lawn Building Conference Room 4 at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, 29 November 2012, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 32/40 B of 2 December 1977.
The speakers at the special meeting include the Chairman of the Committee, the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council and the representative of Palestine, as well as other representatives of intergovernmental and civil society organizations. This year, Roger Waters, singer-songwriter and founding member of Pink Floyd, will speak as a representative of civil society at the end of the special meeting. Meetings in observance of the Solidarity Day will also be held at the United Nations Offices at Geneva and Vienna on 29 November. The meeting in New York will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org.
All Member States and Observers have been invited to attend the special meeting. United Nations family organizations, intergovernmental and civil society organizations have also been invited to attend. The proceedings, including messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people received in connection with the observance of the Day, will be published in a Special Bulletin of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat.
Also, the Committee, in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, will present a cultural exhibit entitled “Palestine: Memories, Dreams, Perseverance”. An opening ceremony for the exhibit will take place at 6:00 p.m. on 29 November in the North-East Gallery in the Public Lobby of the General Assembly Building. At the ceremony, remarks will be made by Abdou Salam Diallo (Senegal), Chairman of the Palestinian Rights Committee; a representative of Palestine; and Manal Deeb, one of the artists who provided artwork for the exhibit.
