Deputy Secretary-General Says Bringing Integrated Implementation Framework ‘Fully

 

to Life’ Requires Member States to Use It Effectively, Keep it Relevant

 

Following are UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro’s closing remarks to the informal meeting of the General Assembly on the launch of the Integrated Implementation Framework, in New York, 6 June:

My task is fairly easy, and this is to thank you so very much for having taken part in this briefing and also having made such valuable comments.

We are at the beginning of a continuous and complex task.  The Integrated Implementation Framework (IIF) has great potential, as has already been said, but we can only realize it if all of you, as well as other stakeholders, make effective use of it.  This tool should help us to make good on our pledges and identify the gaps to retool our efforts.

As the Secretary-General said, we will also need your feedback to keep the Framework relevant and up to date.  The blog and links to social media that are part of the platform should facilitate this.  And only with your feedback can we bring this accountability instrument fully to life.  We expect the IIF to help build true development partnerships.

As we know, and as has already been said, the IIF is important for this time when we are counting down to 2015.  But its relevance reaches far beyond the agreed deadline of 2015.  Mutual accountability will be critical when designing and implementing the post-2015 United Nations development agenda.

And the task is daunting.  Making optimal use of the available information and communication technologies can help us keep better track of what we know, what we have done, and where we have succeeded.

Let me conclude by reiterating our sincere gratitude to the Governments of the Republic of Korea, Canada and Nigeria for their generous support.  We look forward to other Member States supporting us in a similar way.

We thank all of you for being here today, including our experts from organizations of the United Nations system who have turned this promise into a reality.  I strongly encourage everyone to visit the site and engage in this open virtual network to improve international cooperation.  Thank you.
