Secretary-General Appoints María Eugenia Casar of Mexico

 

as Assistant Secretary-General, Controller

 


United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of María Eugenia Casar of Mexico as Assistant Secretary-General, Controller, Office of Programme Planning, Budgets and Accounts, Department of Management.  Ms. Casar will replace Jun Yamazaki.


The Secretary-General is grateful for Mr. Yamazaki’s dedicated service as Controller and for his strong sense of professionalism and commitment to the ideals of the Organization.


Ms. Casar brings with her wide-ranging experience in senior financial management positions in both the private and public sectors, including academia, focusing on delivering results and overseeing major reforms leading to improved effectiveness.


Since 2009, Ms. Casar has served as the Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for Resource Management, Accountability, and Chief Financial Officer in the World Food Programme (WFP).  Previous to that she was the National Treasurer of Mexico.  She has also held other positions in WFP such as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Director of Finance and Budget and in the Government of Mexico as CFO of the Banco Nacional de Servicios Financieros, and has further experience as the Deputy General Director in the Ministry of Finance and Deputy Vice-President of the National Banking Commission.


Ms. Casar is the author of several financial publications and was the Head of the School of Accounting and Management at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo of Mexico.


Ms. Casar holds a Master of Business Administration and a degree in public accounting from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo of Mexico.


Born in 1959, she has two children.
