Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MOROCCO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations, Mohammed Loulichki, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Loulichki was Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, since January 2006.  He served as Director-General of Multilateral relations and Global Cooperation from September 2003.

Mr. Loulichki had earlier served as Deputy Permanent Representative at his country’s Mission in New York from July 2001 to 2003.  Prior to that, beginning in 1999, he was Morocco’s Coordinator with the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), in Laayoune.  From 1995 until 1999, he served as his country’s Ambassador to Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.  From July 1991 to July 1995, he was a member of the Cabinet, then person in charge of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

From October 1988 to February 1991, Mr. Loulichki was Head of Division of Treaties and Legal issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.  Before that, from October 1982 to July 1988, he served as Legal Counsellor at Morocco’s Mission to the United Nations in New York.  From 1977 to 1982, he served as Deputy Consul in Paris.

Mr. Loulichki received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Rabat in 1976; a University post-gradate degree, also from Rabat in 1978; and a post-graduate diploma in international law from the Sorbonne in Paris in 1979.  He speaks Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

Born in Fés in July 1952, he is married with two children.
