TO ARRANGE CONCERTS AS PART OF DANIEL PEARL MUSIC DAYS

 

On 8, 9, and 10 October 2007 at 7 p.m., a series of concerts featuring Israeli artist Idan Raichel will take place at the Museum of Jewish Heritage -– A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, in New York.  Organized as part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, the programme has been arranged by the Museum in conjunction with the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme of the United Nations Department of Public Information.

During the Daniel Pearl Music Days in October, concerts will be held around the world in memory of the slain journalist Daniel Pearl.  The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme lends its support to the Daniel Pearl Foundation and the Museum of Jewish Heritage to celebrate the continuing triumph of tolerance and diversity through the universal language of music.  For more information on the concerts, please visit www.danielpearlmusicdays.org.  For information on the Daniel Pearl Foundation, please access www.danielpearl.org.

Idan Raichel’s multi-ethnic musical group blends the unique sounds of Israel’s cultural traditions with styles from around the world.  Idan will be joined by Colombian singer/songwriter Marta Gómez, new African jazz and soul artist Somi, Ethiopian-Israeli singer Cabra Casay, and percussion master Itamar Doari.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.mjhnyc.org or by calling 646 437 4202. 

The Museum of Jewish Heritage, celebrating its 10th anniversary, educates people of all ages and backgrounds about the rich tapestry of Jewish life over the past century -- before, during, and after the Holocaust.  The Museum offers visitors a vibrant public programme schedule in its Edmond J. The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme, as mandated by General Assembly resolution 60/7, involves civil society partners in Holocaust remembrance and education, in order to help to prevent future acts of genocide.  The programme is currently organizing training seminars on the lessons of the Holocaust for United Nations staff from over 60 offices worldwide and has created “Electronic Notes for Speakers”, an online pedagogical tool for educators and United Nations Member States to assist them in developing educational programmes.
