PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION ‘WALKING THE WORLD’ OPENS AT HEADQUARTERS, 21 NOVEMBER

In commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, a photographic exhibition entitled “Walking the World” will be on display in the North East Gallery of the General Assembly Visitors’ Lobby from 21 November, 2005 to 6 January, 2006.

A formal exhibit opening will take place on Monday, 21 November, at 6 p.m. in the Visitors’ Lobby followed by a reception.  Statements will be made by the Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations, Andrzej Towpik, and the Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Shashi Tharoor.

The exhibition consists of 40 photographs by Tomasz Gudzowaty, a Polish photographer best known to the international public as a four-time winner of the World Press Photo competition, as well as winner of the Award of Excellence at this year’s Pictures of the Year International Competition.  The exhibit also hosts additional works by two young artists, Judith Berekai ( Hungary) and Wojciech Eksner ( Poland).

The exhibit presents a private selection of awe-inspiring wonders showing the diversity of the world in photographs from journeys across Bangladesh, China, India, Kenya, Mongolia, Peru, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.  This show is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Poland to the United Nations, in cooperation with Yours Gallery and the United Nations Department of Public Information.
