NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BENIN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Bodéhoussè Simon Idohou, the new Permanent Representative of Benin to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.


Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Idohou was Director of the Centre d’imagerie médicale du littoral (Centre for Medical Imaging) in Cotonou, a post he had held since 2002. 


From 2000 to 2002, he was Director of the Armed Forces Health Service.  Also during that period, he was Director of the United Nations Population Fund’s BEN/99/PO2 Project, involving the promotion of reproductive health in the health services of the armed forces.


Mr. Idohou has also held a number of other positions in the Armed Forces Health Service, including Deputy Director (1999-2000), Director of the Electroradiology Service (1991-1999), and Director of the Armed Forces Teaching Hospital of Cotonou (1996-1998).


He was educated at the University of Dakar, Senegal, the Armed Forces Training Hospital in Marseilles, and the University of Clermont-Ferrand, both in France.


Born on 23 May 1950 in Porto-Novo, Mr. Idohou is married with four children.
