PRESS STATEMENT ON TIMOR-LESTE BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL

Following is today’s press statement on Timor-Leste by the President of the Security Council, Alfonso Valdivieso (Colombia):

The Security Council was briefed by Assistant-Secretary-General Hédi Annabi on the events that took place in Dili, Timor-Leste, during the last two days.

The members of the Security Council endorsed the statement issued by the Secretary-General and call on all parties to show restraint and return to calm.

The members of the Security Council express their support to the Government of Timor-Leste and also to the efforts of the United Nations Mission in Support of East Timor (UNMISET) in helping to restore law and order.
