Members of the Council held a substantive meeting with Amos Namanga Ngongi, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to discuss the report of the Secretary-General, which was favourably received.  They express the intention to prepare a draft presidential statement as a follow-up action.

However, in view of the imminent opening of the meeting which is scheduled to start next Monday in Sun City, South Africa, members of the Council wished to take a stand today on the inter-Congolese dialogue.  They expressed full support to President Masire, Facilitator of the inter-Congolese dialogue, and his team.  They launched a solemn appeal to all parties to participate in the Sun City meeting in a constructive spirit.
