PRESS STATEMENT ON BURUNDI BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL


Following is the text of today’s press statement on Burundi by the President of the Security Council, Ole Peter Kolby (Norway):


Members of the Security Council call for the immediate cessation of all hostilities and urge the armed groups to negotiate in good faith without delay.  They reiterate their support to the Facilitation of Messrs. Zuma and Bongo and encourage the States in the region to continue to support the Facilitation’s efforts.  They welcome the positive contributions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania in the Burundian peace process, and commend the South African protection unit for the excellent task it is performing.  They urge the donor community to provide and increase development, economic and humanitarian assistance to Burundi.
