CONFERENCE

KIHASA held a policy seminar on January 15, 1997, dealing with the issue of medical welfare promotion of industrial workers. With an attendance of over 100 professionals from the areas of industrial insurance and medicine, it was supported by and held in collaboration with the Health Management Institute of Industrial Accidents.

There were two meetings held in February, both of which were related to the activities of the Health and Medicine Reforming Committee under the auspices of the KIHASA. The First was a public hearing focused on developing administrative efficiency with regard to health, medicine, and pharmaceutical organizations. The presenter, Jaegoog Jo, who works at this institute, is currently involved in the first sub-Health and Medicine Reforming Committee as manager, while five debaters, including the section director of the administrative management department in the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), were also participated in this meeting on February 12, 1997. Second, a policy seminar aimed at extend ing the research and support method for the globalization of orieintal and western medicine was also held. The meeting brought togethers eleven debaters, including the section director of the oriental medicine policy in MOHW.


MAJOR ACTIVITIES

The president of KIHASA (Hacheong Yeon) attended the meeting for guiding the reform of the national pension system on February 12 this year. Also joining the meeting were high-level government officials (Hakkyu Sohn, Minister of MOHW, and Sunjung Choi, secretary of the Health and Welfare Division in the President's Office), as well as related scholars.


ANNOUNCEMENT

From this year (1997), Various policies which have been put into effect stand as follows:
1) establishing the insurance payment for the disabled's rehabilitative equipments
2) extending the health insurance payment period for medical treatment
3) launching a new medical claims & payment of medical care fee system in the pilot project of the DRG (Diagnosed Related Group) in some medical institutions.

KIHASA has been designated as the International Cooperation Center by the MOHW. This center has played an important role in conducting international collaboration, hosting international meetings, a nd undertaking international research in the areas of health and welfare.
