Objectives




KIHASA's main objective is to conduct systematically research on and evaluate national policies and programs related to the areas of health care, social welfare, social insurance and population. KIHASA's works provide the go vernment with valuable information and guidelines with which to formulate policy in these areas.


KIHASA conducts approximately forty long- and short-term research projects every year, thereby accumulating research experience in a wide range of areas.


The Institute is focusing its research on improving the quality of life of the entire population and promoting globalization.


Major research themes include:

- Striving for the globalization of public health and social welfare to improve quality of life
- Strengthening the competitiveness of the public health care industry under the WTO system
- Building the super-highway information network for use in the areas of health and social welfare to keep pace with the information era
- Building a productive and preventive welfare model based on a family and community-oriented society
- Reestablishing the appropriate roles of the central and local governments in the social welfare system as a consequence of decentralization and local community-oriented trends
- Developing a strategy for implementing new population projects for improving human resources and enhancing the welfare level

Functions




Research and develop measures for formulating long and short- term policies in the fields of health, social welfare, and population


Study and evaluate national health services, maternal and child health, social insurance, social security, family welfare, population, and related issues


Carry out joint research and exchange information with related organizations in Korea and in other nations


Execute specific research and development projects in accordance with governmental request


Educate and train people at home and abroad by disseminating information on health and social affairs


Conduct national surveys on households, health, the disabled, the elderly, low-income earners, and so on
