Vanuatu is one of the Pacific island countries selected by the UNFPA South Pacific Office for in-depth sectoral reviews in 1996 covering reproductive health, population and development strategies, gender, and advocacy.
The first sectoral review was undertaken by the CST Reproductive Health/Family Planning Adviser on 14-26 April. Conditions on the governmental and civil service front have given rise to programme management and service delivery uncertainties, but these are being resolved. In addition to extensive interviews with health personnel and multisectoral representatives, the adviser studied the latest reports and documents related to the reproductive health, family planning and sexual health situation in the country. The results of this review will help the Government and UNFPA in programme and strategy development for the sector.
